This project was a fun chance to think creatively about how to entertain a large number of people with a variety of games and activities. A quiz game tested employees on their corporate knowledge.

A coin collecting game challenged employees to come together as a team and was a huge hit with fun competitive gameplay. Each member of a team was only given one button (up, down, left, right, and jump) and only through communication could they avoid hazards and collect coins. As the game progressed, new hazards were introduced to lead to exciting finishes.

I created the core structure of these games in Unity and oversaw the execution and implementation. I worked with the client and the client’s branding vendor to gain the necessary approvals and procure the game assets. I oversaw the development of the buttons, and the tech implementation of the button boxes. I sourced a projector and led the tech install on site in Iowa.

The final game was a ceiling projected game with interactivity provided by 2 RealSense cameras and implemented in TouchDesigner. The users work as a team to score points by collecting positive words and avoiding negative words. This game took a lot of thought to bring to life in a fun way. We had early concerns that the initial concept might not be fun to play and did a round of rapid prototyping which proved out our concerns. After a few evolutions, it was a real thrill to see the end user have so much fun with the final product. This was a game that I took complete ownership of and completed all aspects of sourcing, planning, developing, implementing, and installing.

A small detail that we sorted out early on was picking a suitable carpet material. The black carpet is a sample from the room on site which doesn’t take a projected image very well so we sourced some carpet samples and found one that worked nicely.

A photobooth is always a hit. Users interacted with a touchscreen (Unity application) to take a photo which was printed out right at the booth and then sent to the interactive photowall (video below). My coworker developed the Unity application and I handled requirements, client interactions, networking, and developed the printing API.

I created the photowall in TouchDesigner and added interactivity with a Kinect Azure. I sourced all materials and did all of the programming. It was great fun to go through iterations and hone in on a design that was fun, interesting, and professional looking.

The overall impact of these games and interactive was a huge success. Hundreds of users were entertained for hours and the client couldn’t have been happier.
