Doodles: A digital experience brought to life in an interactive space for everybody to enjoy.

This interactive installation was loaded with tech. My team installed several dozen tablets and computers as part of a system where the user could create their own character and collect fun outfits and accessories throughout the space. There were many BrightSigns driving content, and a variety of other games and interactives programmed in a mix of Unity, Arduino, and TouchDesigner. We used LIDAR, depth cameras, RFID readers, and a variety of buttons and joysticks to create the interactivity.

My primary responsibility was creating the projection mapped interactives, but I contributed to all elements of the project.

The projection mapped interactives were fun to set up in the shop. The projector mounted to a scissor lift is a quick setup for prototyping the interactive river. For the final installation, there was a blue river painted on the ground and I used TouchDesigner to projection map the shape of the river and create a white ripple effect on the surface of the water to give the illusion of moving water. Everything was done in a cartoony art style to fit the theme. I tracked users with a RealSense depth camera to a splash effect and cause the water ripples to flow around them (video below).

Also shown in that shop picture are the wall and projector for the LIDAR projection mapped game where users can throw “happy” bean bags at “sad” monochrome characters to brighten them up and and give them some color. I used TouchDesigner for the game and the projection mapping around scenic elements (video below).
